There are many Australian entertainers that we love, from Bert to Kylie to Farnsey. Whether it is music, television or the stage, there is certainly no lack of talent or showbiz legends. But we want to know, who is Australia’s Greatest Entertainer?
There are four major awards in Australia for entertainment, the ARIA Awards for those with golden tonsils, the Logies for the small screen, the AFI Awards for stars of the Silver Screen and the Helpmann Awards for those who tread the theatre floorboards.
Put them together, and you can only end up with one thing, which we have dubbed The HALA Award (Helpmann, ARIA, Logie, AFI). It’s a prestigious title that is only bestowed to someone who has won an award in each of the four major Australian entertainment categories.
So now the hard part – who are the HALA Award winners in Australia? Are there any? It’s difficult to find this information out so we need your help!
Below you will see the current table that we have set up. Do you know whether there are any winners for these people, and if so, what was the award they won in that category? Please let us know by writing a comment on this post, or dropping us a note on the Contact Us page.
At the same time we have contacted all the publicity agents and media we can get our hands on, all in the aim of finding Australia’s Greatest Entertainer.
And for those who love their TV, yes, this idea was completely inspired by an episode of 30 Rock.
Sometimes you watch a film and it compels you to write a serious post on what is usually, not a very serious website. The film is Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner, a 1967 classic starring Katherine Hepburn, Sidney Poitier and Spencer Tracy. Although I’d never heard of this film, it’s actually one of Andy’s mums favourite films ever (I tell you, that Louise is a real progressive lady).
The film addresses the difficulties that interracial couples had in being together and getting married. This scene is Spencer Tracy’s final monologue, talking about the difficulties that his white daughter will have in marrying Sidney Poitier, the black love of her life. At the time, interracial marriage was banned in 16 states of America – can you believe it!
I can’t help but wonder, can we learn anything from a film that is over 40 years old?
